This research examines the failure to treat this common condition and the potential dangers of ongoing long-term drug use in the treatment of ADD/ADHD. Furthermore, Neurofeedback (NFB), with more than 50 years of basic and applied research combining real-time feedback of brain activity with the scientifically-established principles of operant conditioning, to teach trainees how to self-regulate targeted aspects of brain functioning. As such, NFB is uniquely suited to treat ADHD children provided that 1) the child’s symptoms are functionally related to the targeted brain activity, and 2) the child learns to self-regulate this activity.
